Discovering profound magic of AQUA
July 2008., Taipei, Taiwan:: EPOCH is turning water into high efficient source of power; while realizing the quest of securing more energy with zero CO2 emission.
As price of traditional fossil fuel continues to set record high, seeking an alternative energy has evidently becoming more critical than ever before; no matter for the sake of saving people's pocket or polar bear.
Situated in Environmental Science & Technology Park (ESTP) in Southern Taiwan, EPOCH Energy Technology Corporation (EPOCH) is dedicated to manufacturing green energy solutions, in particular specializes in Oxy-Hydrogen Generators, which change ordinary soft water into a clean burning fuel that can be used to replace traditional gas fuels.
Leveraging from its core competence "creating high efficient, environmental-friendly and safety alternative energy by a glass of water", EPOCH's Oxy-Hydrogen Generators derives fuel directly from soft, clean water and a small amount of electricity, generating a fuel that has better heat concentration and less radiation than with other gas fuels. And best of all, these generated gas can be completely burned without smoke and carbon, resulting zero pollution, toxins and public nuisance.
"Our machines produce zero carbon, thus, there is a corresponding reduction in emissions wherever they are used instead of traditional fuels," said Brian Aiello, general manager of international market and sales of EPOCH, who was once a part of a joint contract between Taiwan Air Force and U.S. Air Force back in 1990 and joined EPOCH in 2006 ever since. "The first time I came to the company and saw the machines in action, I was blown away".
"It was realizing the great potential for our Earth and its living creatures that has been a constant source of my motivation ever since that first day." said Aiello when asked the reason for joining EPOCH.
These Oxy-Hydrogen Generators have been granted with numerous awards, including 2008 Taiwan Excellence Awards and National Honorary Award of Energy Globe 2007, the World Awards for Sustainability.
The application of these machines can been seen in metal cutting, soldering and welding, glass processing, jewelry processing, the food and beverage industry, boilers and kilns, incinerators, dual-fuel systems and many other applications.
The ESTP in Southern Taiwan, also referred as Benzhou ESTP in Kaohsiung County, is the first national ESTP site established in 2003 under the concept of "Zero-waste" policy of Environmental Protection Administration.
Paying less while securing more energy with zero CO2 emission
The United Nations predicts world population growth from 6.4 billion in 2004 to 8.1 billion by 2030, demand for energy must increase substantially over that period. Both population growth and increasing standards of living for many people in developing countries will cause strong growth in energy demand, expected to be 1.6% per year, or 53% from 2004 to 2030. Currently some two billion people have no access to electricity.
World marketed energy consumption is projected to increase by 50% from 2005 to 2030, according to a new report from the United States Energy Information Agency. Total energy demand in non-OECD countries is projected to increase by 95%, while OECD countries are expected to increase consumption by 24%.
At the same time, the reliance on fossil fuel as the primary energy source remains unshaken, which continues to produce substantial carbon dioxide, worsening global warming situation, causing raising sea levels, glacier retreat, Arctic shrinkage, and altered patterns of agriculture.
Recent price hikes in all traditional fossil fuels have created greater difficulties for the world population to secure more energy, not to mention how to reduce carbon emission.
To cope with increased energy demand while lowering fuel costs and carbon emission, EPOCH's Oxy-Hydrogen Generators are seemingly the best choice for industries that require a flame, according to Aiello.
"Since the price of traditional fossil fuels continues to skyrocket, our products are becoming much more competitive," said Aiello. "We have seen our customers saving 25%-30% of their fuel costs by switching to our products."
According to EPOCH's data, 6 liters of water provides 200 kilogram of steam, which would take 9-15 liters of diesel to do the same effect. And again, price of diesel is continue to rise day after day and it also generates pollution, whereas oxy-hydrogen is relatively cheap and produce zero emission.
Currently, EPOCH has obtained certifications from many countries including C.E. Mark, ISO-9001 and ISO 9002; and is in the process of getting ISO-9000 and ISO-14000 certifications.
To expand wider marketing base, the company is also trying to obtain Technischer Überwachungs-Verein (TUV) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) certifications for Europe and America, particularly for residential application.
To date, EPOCH has sold these machines internationally in countries such as Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the USA.
"The growth in sales has been more or less steady in both domestic and international markets," said Aiello. "However, we are getting set to have an explosive second half of this year."
Other products
Incorporating its Oxy-Hydrogen Generator technology, the company has developed a self-contained mobile biohazard purification system to make use of the high-temperature capability of Oxy-Hydrogen Generator fuel, integrated into a mobile incinerator system. This mobile unit will provide immediate assistance to prevent epidemic, such as Avian Influenza, from spreading further when it outbreaks.
The company is also working to adapt Oxy-Hydrogen Generator technology into future applications such as automobile and motorcycle engines, high-speed rail transportation as a supplemental or alternative energy source.
The Kaohsiung city government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with EPOCH to jointly develop and promote the use of Oxy-Hydrogen Generated automobile, as an effort to reduce carbon emission.
EPOCH also produces solar products including water heater, panels, lawn lights, and street lights.
"EPOCH solar heaters are the only ones in Taiwan to have been awarded the Green Mark, and the number of units we sold from 2005 to 2007 has grown by almost nine times" said Aiello.
Benzhou ESTP
Benzhou ESTP covers an area of 40 hectares and is devoted to industries related to renewable energy, key environmental equipment manufacturing, and resource recovery technologies to serve the existing industrial circle.
The water needed by the factories in the park is dealt with high efficiency sewage handling facilities and waste water recycling reusing and saving system so that water resources can fully be recycled and used again
In addition, the streetlamps and environmental monitoring system of the park apply green energies such as solar energy and wind energy.
"Indeed, for an environment-friendly image, lower set up and operating costs, virtually no weather related delays, convenient access to all forms of transportation and the availability of a significantly sized and less expensive labor force, the Benchou Environmental Science Park is one of the best places in Taiwan for business and investment." said Aiello.

Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA)
The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) was founded in 1970 to promote Taiwan's foreign trade and competitiveness in world markets. Over the past 38 years, TAITRA has played a key role in the development of the Taiwan economy. TAITRA is jointly sponsored by the government and commercial associations and is viewed by all as the business gateway to Taiwan for the international business community.
