Danubia Patent and Law

Philosophy

Danubia resembles the Latin name of the river Danube, which gently flows across Hungary starting at the Black Forest and ending in the Black Sea.

This ancient river has always interconnected the cultures of Western, Central and Eastern Europe.
Our office has been using this name for more than five decades and is proud to have succeeded in establishing a channel along which creations of the human intellect can flow on a steady course with the safety that intellectual property protection systems can provide.

Our partners are skilled navigators on this intellectual river and perform their work adeptly to provide, preserve, defend and enforce our clients' rights.

The curved line in our logo that passes through the letter D symbolizes the river of ideas that reaches us and flows out smoothly, well cared for and protected.

Structure

Danubia is divided into five major departments: Department of Patent Attorneys; Trademark Department; Administrative Department; Finance and Book Keeping Department; and IT Department. The sixths department is a separate daughter company, Danubia IP Innovation Consulting Ltd., having a team of experts on technology transfer and innovation management.

The Department of Patent Attorneys consists of two branches: a Chemical Branch and a Non-chemical Branch. Cases in the chemical and pharmaceutical fields, including biochemistry are assigned to the chemical branch while the non-chemical branch handles cases in the fields of engineering, electronics, physics, computer science and other related technologies.

The trademark lawyers and of the trademark branch specialize in obtaining, maintaining and defending trademark rights, and litigate in cases of infringement or trademark-related unfair competition.

The Administrative Department takes care of annuity payments and management, foreign filing formalities, docketing, office automation, and general in-house services including mail, fax and internal archives.

The Finance and Book Keeping Department ensures that all financial matters are well administered allowing our clients to be informed of their balance or in cases of under or overpayment.

The IT Department provides for state of the art computer technology having a highly skilled IT support team to constantly aid and improve the technical working conditions. We utilize custom designed software tailored to our specific needs and our in-house programmers continuously improve the system to match new requirements.

The management of Danubia is performed by the board members elected by the partners consisting the patent attorneys, trademark lawyers and head of the departments.

The partners meet frequently and on a regular basis to share information and new ideas, to discuss management issues and to make business decisions. An active management style keeps the partners up-to-date on all of the firm's activities.

Foreign Relations

We have an ever-growing list of domestic and foreign clients, including major European and overseas companies. Many of our Western clients have chosen us as regional agent to handle their intellectual property cases in a number of Central and Eastern European countries. In recognition of the growing need to take an international approach to intellectual property matters, our attorneys participate in the work of various international intellectual property organizations as well as attend international conferences and conventions to establish personal contact with clients and associates.

With Hungary's joining the European Patent Organization, our patent attorneys have been registered as European Patent Attorneys, and our activity has been extended to cover all activities relating to European patent applications and patents. Danubia has a part-time office in Munich allowing our attorneys to handle special cases personally at the European Patent Office when necessary.

History

Danubia was formed in 1949 by devoted professionals whose dedication established and sustained for the coming generations the well-earned reputation of high-quality professional services. The founding members of Danubia carried themselves long family traditions of IP law practice in which the activity of the first patent attorneys, predating the first Hungarian patent law of 1896, were based on the laws of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

In the late '80s, at the very beginning of the process of transition from centrally planned to market economy, the professional staff acted swiftly to purchase the trademark Danubia and created a limited liability partnership as an independent private entity. We carry on a long, proud tradition and remain a leading intellectual property law firm in Central Europe.
