CEVA-Phylaxia
In 1912, Ferenc Hutyra and János Köves founded Phylaxia Serum Company to
solve the problems caused by emerging animal diseases in the field.
Since then, widely acclaimed researchers, well known worldwide, have been
associated with the history of Ceva-Phylaxia: Aladar Aujeszky, Jozsef
Marek, Domokos Derzsy and more recently Adorjan Bartha.
Started at laboratory scale, the trademark of Ceva-Phylaxia is high quality
research with direct application in the field for the benefit of
veterinarians and farmers. From the very early days SERVICE to customers
through diagnostic, education and information is the premise of the
company's history.
In 1991, Phylaxia joined the Sanofi Sante Animale group and later became
Ceva-Phylaxia. The Multinational brought into the wedding package its own
vaccines (Coglapest, Coglavax, Cevac IBD L, etc.) and research facilities
in the USA, where further famous researchers, like Rollie Winterfield,
Steve Hitchner and Al Cosgrove ( who first identified the Gumboro disease)
were associated with the American branch of the company.
Strongly rooted in its historical EXPERTISE handed down from generation to
generation, in the past 10 years the company benefited from continuous
investments to upgrade its facilities and equipment.
Biologicals being one of its strategic axis of development, the CEVA group
decided to make Ceva-Phylaxia its driving force in the field of veterinary
biologicals.
CEVA's strongest and most sophisticated commitment to the future of biology
are the new state-of-the-art facilities which comprise two brand new
factories built to European GMP standards, new GLP research laboratories
and significant investments in Quality Control standards.
CEVA-Phylaxia possesses a strong tradition of research and field driven
product innovations.
Nowadays, the company focuses its efforts and means on three tracks of long-
term research:
- Identification of new antigens either classical or recombinant,
- Vectorisation of antigens through either virus vector or physical media,
- Stabilisation of antigens.
The focus of the Development teams is clearly on vaccines for pig and
poultry as first priority, and for sheep as second priority. Recently the
company developed a number of products and diagnostic technologies targeted
to these species:
- Cevac IBD L: leading intermediate plus vaccine against the very virulent form of the Gumboro disease.
- Cevac Vitapest L: containing the in-house developed PHY-LMV 42 apathogenic and enterotropic strain protecting against Newcastle disease.
- Auphyl Plus: new vaccine with specific adjuvant against Aujeszky's disease allowing eradication at farm and country level.
- Semi-synthetic media for bacterial vaccine production.
- New ELISA methods dedicated to the in-process quality control as well as control of the finished products.
The future of the company relies on the quality of its teams, about 300
people, 60 of them in Research and Development, and the quality of its
products. The latest innovations like Cevac Vitapest, Cevac Vitabron or
Cevac Transmune IBD already acclaimed by the farmers and veterinarians for
their positive role in the improvement of poultry production are another
step in the development of Ceva-Phylaxia.
